Summer Reading Challenge 2021 June 7 – July 30
In Beanstack, you can view the available activities, enter your child’s reading progress, activities and more. Children will receive prizes as they progress and will be entered into drawings at the end of the summer. Click HERE to get more details on using Beanstack. REGISTRATION begins May 24!
*Note: For those that don’t have internet access, a paper form of the summer program can be provided.
STORY TIME MONDAYS—ages preschool and younger (June 7—July 26) Enjoy stories, rhymes, and songs every Monday at 10:00am OR 2:00pm on the library lawn! Bring a blanket or sheet to sit on. The library community room will be used for inclement weather. *NO story time on Monday July 5 – due to holiday weekend.
Activity Bags—ages 11 and younger (June 7—July 30) Pick-up a weekly activity bag for creative fun! Enter the code found inside the activity bag to complete a Beanstack activity! New bags available each Monday while supplies last.
Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt—ages teen and younger (June 7—July 30) Pick up a weekly scavenger hunt sheet at the library’s front desk, or print it off from the library’s website, and find everything listed while you walk around Waterloo! Once you’ve found all the items, fill out your first and last name on the scavenger hunt sheet and return it in the library’s outside book drop, or at the front desk. Youth Services Librarian, Mrs. Amanda, will then enter the activity for you to earn the weekly badge!

Wildlife Tails & Tales—June 22 at 2:00pm
Why does the beaver have a flat tail? Who has a “white-tail” and why? These and other “tales” will be front and center during this exploration of nature featuring live animals! Performance is planned for outside. The community room will be used for inclement weather and attendance may be limited.
Big City Vehicles—July 6 at 2:00pm
Come see city vehicles close up and ask questions from the experts! Visit with friendly community employees from the Waterloo Public Works, Utilities, Police and Fire Department.
Musical Tails and Tales with David Landau—July 20 at 2:00pm
David’s personal appearances are upbeat musical programs that keep children engaged and constantly thinking.
Summer Celebration—July 31 at 11:00am—1:00pm
Celebrate your summer reading accomplishments with snow cones, games and more! Grand prize winners from all age categories will also be announced.
